So, after rebooting my computer for the day, I crank up my browser so I can go do some Facebook stuff and just as I clicked on the link to Gourmet Ranch, I see something about Morgan Freeman and his step-granddaughter.

Normally, I don’t get into what celebrities do and often riff about how the media just makes a big deal of things they may do that, if there weren’t celebs, no one would every pay attention to them. Ah, but this one had me going, “He’s gonna do what? With who?”

Okay, so if she’s got the word “step” before her other identifier – granddaughter – well, right away, there’s no blood relationship. According to the Yahoo article I read – and I’m not including the link because it’s so long it makes the viewable blog look like shit – Morgan allegedly did the deed with this girl, his wife found out about it, and divorced him but, interestingly, the article not only points out the very wide gap in their ages – 45 years – but it also points out that if Morgan did hit that thang, she had to be 17 at the time.

It should be noted that this, um, alleged pending and creepy-feeling marriage is being reported by the National Enquire and, honestly, if that rag reported that the sun was gonna rise in the east, I’d probably not believe them.

Responses to the Yahoo article run along the same lines – just plain creepy in their eyes and I’ll even admit that on first glance, yeah, hmm, Morgan, what were you thinking about with this one? I also saw a comment with the word “incest” in it – that’s enough to give most people the creeps right off the bat! Then I shift into neutral, take a step back and apply some objectivity to this one, like what the law says about such things.

Image via Wikipedia

The article implies these two have been having a fling for ten years, again, making her 17 if, as reported, they had sex; the word “allegedly” plays big in this. Without knowing where the alleged act occurred – and being familiar with the laws where I live, hmm, 17 puts her over the minimal age of consent, which is 16 but, well, at least here, legally it gets confusing only because LAOC (legal age of consent) here is 18 now but a 16 or 17 year old can consent to sex but we put some extra shit into the law that, once you figure it out, if he was 62 and she was 17, that’s more than the thirteen-year age difference so Morgan would have probably been arrested for unlawful sexual intercourse if he wasn’t who he is; our law says – in part – “The age of consent in Delaware is 18, but it is legal for teenagers aged 16 and 17 to engage in sexual intercourse as long as the older partner is younger than 30.” So, hmm, if he really did this and happened to be in Delaware, homey would be waiting to explain this one to a judge because, according to our laws, he’s guilty of fourth degree rape – a Class C felony.

Then there’s the fact that she’s not related to him by blood so if, say, the law here would want to slap his hands for the age difference thing, eh, they might not say a whole lot about this part of the alleged act because, technically, they’re not related except by association. If he was answering to a judge for the first thing, I’m sure that honorable person would bring this up and say a few words to him simply because this doesn’t look good. Indeed, I read the whole law about this for us here and because he was in a position of authority over her – he was raising her – well, hmm, put your hands behind your back, Mr. Freeman…

Morgan Freeman is a fine actor and probably has a whole room filled with all the accolades afforded him in this. What we tend to do is to confuse his celebrity with him simply being another human being so that when such a person does something – or allegedly does something – we tend to either be shocked at it, take a dim view of it, other stuff like that.

However, depending on the prevailing law wherever this supposed sex act took place, did he really do something illegal or even immoral? The article, such as it is, is sorely lacking the detail that such news about celebs tends to invoke, like, um, he’s got a date in a court somewhere to answer to the charges of fourth degree rape or something like that. Certainly, it just doesn’t sound right, does it? Kinda makes your blood run cold and you find yourself involuntarily shivering over this one?

While the laws differ from state to state, there’s one thing that’s consistent: People who are directly related to each other aren’t allowed to have sex or marry and a step-anything doesn’t constitute a direct relationship by blood, although I do wonder if adoption plays into this in anyway; like, you legally adopted your new wife’s daughter, officially and legally making her your step-daughter… but she’s not really your daughter. See, in this, there’s the spirit of the law… then there’s the letter of the law and I’m thinking they might not agree with each other where this particular thing is concerned. But, as usual, I digress.

Does this freak you out in any way? Do you read the article and just shrug, writing it off as either media hype or some other form of bullshit – or because you’re thinking, “Well, famous people are always doing insane shit anyway…” The Enquire has always been accused of questionable reporting; they’ve been sued by celebrities quite a bit for literally making shit up and reporting it as fact like, say, someone takes a picture of Beyonce, in a bikini, and standing with someone that ain’t her husband… and now they have her having an affair when, in truth, it’s a story based on some either coincidental picture – someone just happened to be standing next to her, all nice and innocent – or some clever photographic trickery.

At best, it makes anything they say questionable and I know I tend to automatically dismiss this stuff when I happen to see it while standing in line at the supermarket – there’s a reason why they put those things at the register, you know. I’ve actually watched people flipping through it while waiting; me, I might see one and just roll my eyes and, yeah, had I saw this emblazoned all over the place when I was last in the market – a couple of days ago now, I would have frowned, rolled my eyes until they hurt, and went right on about my business.

Unless he’s officially charged with a crime, did it happen? If a reliable media source had reported this, say, CNN or NBC Nightly News, would it be taken as a matter of fact… even though there’s no evidence of him being arrested for what would most likely be a crime in a lot of states? Which thing is the most “offensive;” the fact that he’s 45 years older than this woman or that he’s “related” to this person?

It did cross my mind that Morgan got into it with the media over some shit concerning the Tea Party a while back so maybe he’s really gotten the media’s attention and to the point where they’re digging up dirt on him because of his political views? I recall Bill Cosby saying some shit that the media took great offense to – and they started digging up dirt on him like there was no tomorrow.

It makes this blogger wonder if the response to this “news” isn’t taking the legal implications into consideration before deeming this creepy – that seems to be a purely moral reaction, doesn’t it? It also makes me wonder what makes the difference with people – morality or the cold, hard, and uncaring facts of law? A comment in another article I saw on this – also of questionable sources – says that, okay, maybe he didn’t commit incest… but still! What, if anything, is the real objection to this, provided it’s the real deal?

So… when you’re thinking about getting laid, what’s the first thing that hits your conscious mind? Do you first think of how it makes you feel or are your first thoughts about something you want to do or have done to you? Or do you think about what you want then let how it feels float through your mind?

I was thinking about “Worth A Thousand Words” and what, if anything, the image invokes in the mind of the person viewing it. I realized that when I first saw the picture, I was actually thinking several things at once – ah, the human mind is a remarkable thing! It invoked memories of the times I had pussy for breakfast – and without me even having to really bring them back. It took me a couple of days but I was able to sort out that when I think about getting laid, I get an intangible impression of what it feels like – then I get my head all in the gutter about what I’d like to do about it.

With the picture in the aforementioned blog, the impression I got first was one of warmth and comfort – okay, it sounds nuts but this is my mind we’re talking about, aight? As memories flooded my thoughts, I was aware of a consistent current running beneath the salacious thoughts: Yes, this makes me feel really good and all while my other thoughts started running into each other until they became a huge mish-mash of thoughts, memories, and feelings – which is why it took a couple of days for me to sort them out.

Then, because I didn’t have anything else to think about, I got to wondering what those who read the blog might have been thinking when they saw the picture. I laughed softly to myself as I thought that those who don’t eat pussy or don’t like to be eaten probably wouldn’t think much of the picture; my next thought was that they really don’t know what they’re missing but, eh, my mind works like that.

I thought about what women would think seeing it; would they think, “Oh, yeah, that works for me!” or would they think, “Shit, I wish!” or maybe even, “Ew… before I had a chance to wash it?”

Maybe when you think about getting laid, you think about the “hassle” of it? As the thought rummages around in your head, are you thinking, “Man, that would be nice… but that’s a lot of work!” Perhaps the desire really amounts to a lot of wishful thinking for some – but that’s not what I’m talking about right now; this is about what goes through your head when you get spurred to get you some.

Now, this might not have much meaning for some folks… but it does say something about how you think about sex in those very early moments; whether you wind up seeing actually doing it as problematic, well, that’s something else. Yeah, you’re probably very much aware of what you’re thinking… but are you paying attention to how you’re feeling in that initial moment? Does it make you all warm and fuzzy… or cranky and itchy? When the memories come rushing to the front unbidden, are they good ones… or are they the ones we wish we didn’t have living in our noodles?

Hell, does what you eventually wind up thinking about override or just flat-out crush whatever it is you’re feeling at the onset? Think about that one for a moment and let me set the stage for ya:

You saw the picture… and either a coherent thought or an intangible feeling spiked into your head. Your brain, being the pain in the ass it can be, starts throwing images onto the HDTV inside your head and you think, depending on your POV of the picture, “I love doing this!” or something along those lines… but, hmm, maybe while you’re thinking about what the picture suggests, you’re now thinking more about how much of a pain in the ass it’s become to be in the position to either have breakfast… or be breakfast.

Is any of this relevant? Sure it is, and more so if you have good reason to believe that you understand yourself where things sexual are concerned. It seems to this blogger – and several blogs I’ve read seem to bear this thought out – that we just might spend more time thinking about doing than we do about our feelings about it before the fact. Of course, um, some of us aren’t all that keen to reveal their thoughts about this so all we ever do mention is the doing part of whatever we were feeling.

And that’s fine… as long as you’re aware that you’re feeling something before your conscious mind kicks in to either enhance the feelings or throw a huge bucket of ice-cold water on the whole thing. How you think about getting laid is one thing; but isn’t how you feel, in that initial moment, just as important?

Do you ever really think about what you’re thinking about? And how does it make you feel?

But that’s not what bugs me; the more I get into this operating system, as provided by Samsung, the less I’m liking it. I’ve started to look for instructions on how to root this phone because I’m just not happy that they’ve put stuff on this phone I’d rather not use or can’t find a use for, like that stupid Microsoft Office wannabe software on the phone – what would I use that for when, um, I have the latest and greatest version of Office on my computer?

Or like UberSocial, which I think is a Facebook wannabe… except I have Facebook on the phone just to see if it behaved any different from the version on my iPod. I have such a better understanding why people root their phones – it’s the only way to get rid of the dumb shit the provider puts on it and, really, I wouldn’t mind getting a phone like this and having some say about what applications I want on it.

Of course, there’s always a chance that if I do root it, I could brick it – I love this term, by the way, ’cause it’s appropriate: If you don’t do it right, your expensive smartphone will be as useless as a brick… and bricks are good for things other than building stuff so it would be worth less than a brick.

There are tons of Andrew – shit – Android phones on the market and more of them keep coming out like roaches when the light comes on and I’m wondering when the madness about smart phones is going to end because they’re only going to be as good as the provider will allow them to be and, trust me, they don’t really have your best interests in mind if you phone plays games better than it actually makes phone calls.

So, I find out about this cool program called SPB Shell 3D and, oh, man, I just gotta try this! I get it downloaded and… the program tells me I don’t have enough available space to install the program… and that’s because Boost put a bunch of dumb shit on my phone that I can’t get rid of unless I root the phone. Personally, I’d like the option to install stuff on my MicroSD card rather than try to cram stuff into the tiny space the phone provides for applications and stuff – kinda defeats the whole purpose of having a card in the thing, wouldn’t you say?

They want smart phones and tablets to replace desktops and laptops and if this is really true, well, they gotta do better to make me happy. I mean, my phone is already obsolete; Boost now has smart phones that make mine look like one of those ancient cell phones that came in a bag – anyone remember them? Oh, I can probably trade this one in for one of the more powerful phones… but I’m still gonna be stuck with what Boost thinks I need on the device.

I have yet to figure out what makes this operating system so great as they say it is. I’m thinking now that as long as I don’t have full and unrestricted access to the phone’s OS and, particular, its file system. And, oh, yeah, silly me – I actually paid to be denied the access I want to a device that I own.

I got an email from Norwegian Cruise Lines today, being a past customer of theirs, reminding people that their ships are very safe to sail upon. It talks about how long their captains have been captains (on average) and what it takes for them to reach that exalted position, which is about fifteen years.

Of course, their newest ships, with their odd, blocky look, are state-of-the-art cruise ships and loaded with every possible bell and whistle, their bridge crews extensively trained in their operation and, really, when I sailed on one of their older ships, I didn’t have many complaints about the ship or her captain – I got a chance to chat with him during a docking operation and he was more than happy to explain to me what was going on (even though I knew already).

I got the letter as a result of the disaster in Italy, which doesn’t really surprise me – but I like it. Even if I never step foot aboard an NCL ship again, it’s nice of them to point out the integrity of their crews and captains, their adherence to existing maritime safety laws and protocols, and the like. And they had to do something like this so that potential customers won’t be put off sailing the high seas.

Haven’t heard from Carnival yet – they own the Costa Concordia (or what’s left of it) – and you’d think that once people found this out, they’d be going nuts trying to convince customers here of the safety of their ships and the competency of their captains and crews. But, I understand they’re a little busy with salvage operations and extensive damage control and preparing for the onslaught of lawsuits that’s sure to hit their corporate wallets very hard.

Personally, I wouldn’t let this incident deter me from cruising again. Those folks who were considering taking to the seas are sure to have second thoughts about this now and I say to them, go cruising and have fun; you really do stand more of a chance having a problem just getting to the airport than you do being aboard a ship.

On our last cruise, the guy who took us to the airport was scarier than being on the ship; he seemed to have a bit of a problem keeping the van between the lines, making me wonder if he was fully awake by the time he arrived to get us – and that, folks, was the worst moment of our entire trip.

I do recommend that if you decide to cruise, do a search for the ship you’ll be sailing on; you should be able to find a wealth of information about it, like when it was built, if it’s ever been refitted or in dry dock for repairs – stuff like that. You can also find out about its current captain and crew – just ask the cruise line.

So, if the last Facebook thing was eye-opening, this here’s one of those eye-rolling quotes that a lot of Facebook women fall all over themselves about. There is truth to this pie-in-the-sky thought… but if he’s not looking at other women, do two things: Check his pulse and look in his underwear to make sure he’s really a man through and through and not secretly gay.

Anyone who believes this doesn’t know a damned thing about men. Yeah, we adopt a “look but don’t touch” attitude when we have a woman but, damn it, we’re gonna look – we can’t not look! We won’t look because we don’t want to incur your wrath and, in some cases, get an earful of how really insecure you are about yourself as a woman… and your endless, ceaseless, doubts about us.

Just because I might look at another woman has nothing to do with you. Okay, yeah, maybe for less than a tenth of a second, I might think about what she looks like naked or, uh-huh, what it might feel like to do the shit out of her – but I’m a man – I always think like that and if you really knew the shit that goes on in my head whenever I see another woman, you probably wouldn’t be happy with me, even more than when you saw me checking her out. And it sure as hell doesn’t mean I want to run away with her!

You want me to be all man, all of the time… but you don’t want me to act like one? It’s saying like this that bugs me at times… because it assumes that we aren’t thinking of all the ways we can love you and, yeah, some of us really are. But, yeah, if a woman catches my eye – and, no, it doesn’t mean I’m looking to replace you (unless you’ve given me reason to) – I’m going to look. Those few seconds of salacious thinking will take place because it has to – I’m just wired like that – and then it’ll pass…

Because I know I love you and any lustful thoughts seeing the other woman invoke should – and will – be directed at you… if you’re of a mind to let me do them in the first place. Instead of showing me some quote like this – and insulting me as a man – ask me why I was looking at her… if you dare. See, you really don’t know what’s going on in my mind at that moment; I could be thinking she’s fat, has too much makeup on, shouldn’t have worn that outfit today (or ever) or she’s nice to look at… but she can’t replace you in my heart because I know the one thing you think I don’t know: Beauty is only skin deep and ugly is deep down to the bone.

And, um, sorry to mention this, but if you bust my ass because I looked at her and thinking that I want to be with her, well, aren’t you being a little bit ugly? You want me to believe that you didn’t see her – and I know you did so don’t try to bullshit me, aight? I don’t know what you were thinking when you saw her… but because you know I did, well, you’re just thinking the worst about me now, aren’t you?

You believe that shit that we’re all dogs – and, please, don’t insult my intelligence and tell me otherwise. The truth is – and I hate to say this – but you don’t know as much about us as you think you do. You have that whole “thinking is doing” crap running around in your head, blaming me for the dumb shit some other guys put you through before I came along – how fair is that? So what – I dedicated some microseconds to thinking about fucking her; the thought flashed through my mind faster than it took you to notice that I saw her… and it was dismissed because, oops, there’s another woman in my field of vision and, yes, I’m very much aware of the fact that you’re beside me and heated enough to fry a steak.

And I’m wondering why. You look at other men; hell, if you’re out and about, you can’t not look at other men! But if I say something to you about it, oh, now you’re offended… and all because I asked you, “What were you thinking when you saw that dude?” I haven’t accused you of wanting to be unfaithful or anything like that – I’m actually trying to understand you better because, at least in my mind, if you didn’t scope out the good-looking hunky dude that just walked by, give me your wrist – I think I need to call 911 ’cause there’s a dead woman standing next to me. And, no, a real man wouldn’t even dream of “accusing” you of wanting to be with him in any way…

And, really, if you think I’m looking for another woman – and I’m not, by the way – what does that say about you? I’m sure it says nothing nice, like, there’s something about you that’ll not be to my liking… so you gots to go, sorry, sweetie – it’s been fun, thanks. Am I not allowed to appreciate beauty when I see it? Am I not allowed to look and think, ew, who let her out of the house? Am I not allowed to see other women and, in that instant, judge them and decide that they don’t hold a candle to you?

Ah, fuck me… I know when I tell you this, you’re not going to believe a word of it – and you cannot begin to imagine just how totally worthless that makes me feel and, hmm, if I was looking to replace you, this is a good reason to do so. You’ll question my feelings, my resolve, my sense of duty to be by your side and, yeah, we’ll even get to one of those “Prove it!” moments (Hi, Relationship Diva!) and for what? For a few seconds of doing what any man would do: Look at another woman. Not for – at. Ah, but to some women, these are the same things, aren’t they?

Does it even matter to you that most of the time, I see women and don’t have any thoughts about them one way or the other – I just see them, just as I would just see a tree or a rock or a parked car; she’s just there and that’s all?

At the time I saw this, about 75 women were screaming “Hallelujah” over this quote… and it’s both right and about as wrong as it can ever be. In this, I’d have to ask – again – why you think we’d be looking for another woman and, no, it’s not because all men are dogs. And, oh, by the way, if that’s what you believe, you probably don’t know why we are… nor do you really care. You want us to understand you… yet, you’re ready, willing, and able to apply a nonsensical stereotype to us in this because, really, baby, if we’re looking for another woman, it’s because there’s something really wrong with YOU, our hormonal behavior notwithstanding. Let a man shout out, “All women are whores!” and find out what’ll happen to him…

See, I’d like to meet the person who wrote this and just slap the shit out of them for writing something that is patently ridiculous; it takes all men and lumps them into a messy ball that, in fact, doesn’t apply to a lot of us. And, you will notice that it says “…looking for ways to love their own…” and not doing it, right? It begs an important question: Why would your man have to look for ways to love you? Have you made it hard for him to execute those ways? Giving him a steady diet of “I ain’t doing that!” when he comes up with a way to love you? Always got him in that “Prove it!” mode of thinking?

Oh, I would so give the author of this quote a sharp blow to the liver! You don’t get men to be faithful by writing shit like this because by saying only “real men” do this, you’ve just insulted the manhood of a whole lot of men… and we don’t react well to that. I know my initial reaction to this was, “Oh, really?” See, to me, a real man would see this and roll his eyes – and especially over the Facebook response by so many women – and think, “Damn, our asses are in trouble again…”

I see stuff like this on Facebook all the time… and it makes me nuts. The truth, which is probably being overlooked, is that we’d never have a reason to look for another woman if you made sure we were happy with you. Look for ways to love you? Yeah, we gotta do that… all the time and, occasionally, we even find something that actually works. Or is this just a way to say that real men are pussy-whipped?

The author of this quote deserves to piss blood for a few days so a couple of swift kicks to the kidneys is in order… because if it was something he really wanted to do, he’d find the time to do it – but you still gotta ask yourself why he’d do that in the first place.

On the real, if your man ain’t being faithful, yeah, he’s screwing the pooch… but you really should think about why he might be. If we’re thinking, even for a moment, that the grass might be greener on the other side, well, what got us thinking like that to begin with?

Okay, back to ignoring this stuff on Facebook – it just felt good to go off on it!

Ya know, there are times when I’ll see something on Facebook and it just makes me roll my eyes. I just saw this one and, uh-huh, me likey this one! Kinda surprised that someone had the balls to post this pic and that Facebook hasn’t made it go away… but how could you not like having this for breakfast?

I know; you’re thinking, “He can’t be that bummed out…” but, hey, if there’s something that’ll lift your spirits, this kind of, um, breakfast works!

You get your mind all in the gutter and, well, it’s a good feeling… or it should be. I’m thinking that if you’re so busy that you can’t get your mind in the gutter about something, you need a vacation or something… or maybe some intense therapy. I saw this picture and I automatically thought, “Breakfast? Shit, that’s lunch, dinner, and the midnight snack, too!”

And it felt good to have this thought, too; being the somewhat devilish person I can be, my next though was, “Oh, I gotta share this on WordPress…” followed by, “Shit… I wish it was bigger in the blog!” It’s probably something I didn’t do when I inserted it… but I do have the full-sized pic on my drive now (insert salacious winking here).

Ah, man, a picture like this just gets the imagination going, doesn’t it? Well, maybe if you’re not into pussy… but still. The thoughts about eating pussy come unbidden; memories of doing it are running rampant in my head and how such thoughts can fail to thrill someone is beyond my comprehension and if it doesn’t, get someone to check your pulse.

I just wanted to share this one with y’all – and if you can think of something better for breakfast, let me know.

When you’re down and out, lift your head and shout, “Bullshit! Bullshit!”

The devil will rise and answer your cries, “Bullshit! Bullshit!”

This is one of those rhymes we used to run around chanting way back in the pre-teen days; I have no idea who created it, whether it existed before my time, or what – I just know it was rather appropriate and, uh-huh, tended to shock people who heard us shouting it at the top of our lungs… while we hoped no one knew our parents or where we lived.

I’ve been feeling kinda bummed out, dealing with aches and pains that, at the least, are very annoying and at the worse, scary. Some of it is the pain I’ve endured going on six years now, along with the feeling of numbness that’s not quite really being numb – it’s just impaired muscle function and at times, it really gets on my fucking nerves to not be able to curl my toes without have to concentrate like I’m trying to calculate pi or something.

My neck hurts… and it’s making my back hurt in that area that suggests a heart attack in progress… but, then again, thanks to my right side, it always kinda feels like that. Because my neck hurts, it’s making my left arm hurt – you see where I’m going, right? But, the heart is okay; when I lie down, the pains go away and that wouldn’t be the case if the old ticker was acting up. But who wants to be worried about this shit?

Then, if that wasn’t enough, my stomach wants to act up – reflux and, no, the medication isn’t as effective as I need it to be; the stuff that does work makes a crucial medication I take less effective and homey ain’t trying to hear that – I got enough issues as it is… damn!

Like my mother used to say, this getting old shit is for the birds! I get bummed out about this and I hear that rhyme running around in my mind and while I don’t go running around the house shouting “Bullshit! Bullshit!” – my lady would start looking for the number for the mental hospital – man, I am sure thinking it.

I never look forward to winter; all things considered, I wouldn’t be thrilled about it even if I liked this time of year – which I don’t. It snowed the other day and I was just fucking miserable – and I hadn’t been outside. Some people get those aches and pains in their joints when bad weather is on the way or in progress – my whole right side reacts to it and, after a while, it really starts to fuck with me.

I’m still trying to figure out why I’m not completely insane by now (depending on who you ask, that is). I get to read how others with CPS cope with their pains… and some of them are so heavily medicated that they can barely function – and, oh, yeah, they’re still hurting like crazy. Compared to them, I’m doing pretty good. I know that as along as I have my brain focusing on stuff, it doesn’t have time to really think about the pain but, jeez, it is so tiring!

The hardest thing about being bummed out about this stuff is knowing that you can’t let it keep you down; letting it not get you down is kinda impossible – the pain is a constant reminder so I know that, yeah, I’m gonna have these moments and the task now is to not let it drag me down into the dark depths of despair – I’ve been there and you just have no idea. Like I’ve said in the past, I used to wonder what would drive people with chronic, debilitating pain to end their lives… but not any more because I know why and to say it sucks doesn’t even come close to describing it.

You have a stroke like I did and it makes you paranoid about your health; I get a mild headache and it becomes a scary proposition and it’s just so fucked up trying to figure out if it’s just a headache or it’s something else. I wind up checking my BP and pulse – a lot – even though the medication is, in fact, doing its job.

You just get overloaded at times trying to cope with all this shit. I mean, if you’re working and get close to being burned out, you go on vacation, take a couple of weeks to decompress and then you’re ready to dive back in there. But, sadly, there’s no vacation from this, no reprieve you can seek because where I go, the pain and its nasty fellows just follow along with me.

At some point, I just throw my hands in the air out of frustration because there’s really nothing I can do about it; well, nothing I find acceptable. I could take more powerful drugs and become a zombie – that’s no fun, by the way. I probably need to have my brain scanned again just so I can know what the fuck is going on in there these days and I haven’t had a full, 12-lead EKG in a while so I gotta put that on my list of things to do – just to be double-damned sure, ya know? I don’t like those, by the way, because it takes me days to get that adhesive off me, not to mention that when they pull the leads off, um, some body hair wants to go with them – OUCH!

I’m okay, though… I’m just bummed and this will pass quickly. It’s just hard for either my ego or my intelligence to accept this – and I think this is a good thing because I feel the moment I stop fighting this, my ass is grass and I just refuse to let the pain and its friends win.

Now to get my mind back in the gutter; I’ve had this idea for a short story shuffling around in my head and I just haven’t gotten it pieced together yet. I know I need to get into my Word documents, find all the stories I’ve written (and finished) and get them uploaded to my ASSTR account but that’ll take a while to do; I’ll have to re-read them, correct any mistakes I missed when I wrote it, stuff like that. But I have what feels to be an incredibly filthy story in my head so maybe when the bummed-out period expires, I’ll be able to write it.

I’ve been reading about the take-down done on Megaupload’s CEO and some of his history and while that was rather intriguing, what makes my eyebrows rise is a statement someone made, along the lines of the United States being able to arrange the arrest of a German citizen living in New Zealand… that’s a lot of reach, huh? It was revealed that our DoJ could get after this guy because of servers he leased in Virginia, so, there you go and, yes, the DoJ isn’t the only government agency that has that kind of reach – the DEA does, too.

Response to this was what I’d call interesting, like, shit, the FBI got hacked and their website, as well as a few others, had to suffer through DoS attacks – that’s denial of service – and those are only “funny” if you’re not one of the people who have to fix it (trust me, it is not fun). It not only makes a website unavailable – it makes the target’s entire network infrastructure suffer or cause people to start shutting off servers because, usually, when a DoS attack gets going, they are damned hard to stop.

But, that’s not what this bit of blog is about; it’s about this statement I read. According to the article (http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/01/20/10199528-megaupload-founders-homes-raided-5m-in-luxury-cars-seized):

“The Justice Department said it was illegal for anyone to download pirated content, but that its investigation is focused on the leaders of the company, not users who may have downloaded a few movies for personal viewing.”

Ah, now we kinda see what SOPA/PIPA is really about, eh? It makes sense given that there aren’t enough prisons on the planet were everyone who ever “illegally” downloaded a movie were imprisoned… but there’s plenty of room for people like Megaupload’s CEO, the people who profit magnificently from this. According to the article, this dude took the industry down for $500 million in lost revenue… and from what they confiscated during their raids, while not even putting a dent in that figure, it is a tidy sum, ain’t it?

And don’t you find it interesting that MSNBC, that joint venture between Microsoft and NBC/Universal, are split on this one? Read the usual disclaimer at the bottom of the article; NBC supports it – they’re in the entertainment business – Microsoft disses it as it’s currently written, which is kinda interesting to me given how much the Windows operating system has been hacked and pirated so much that Microsoft is better off just giving it away. Then again, I’ve always suspected that Microsoft has always been at the root of this particular thing; I mean, really, just where do you think that perfect, “illegal” copy comes from?

On this on, MS just “throws its hands up” and says they have no idea how it gets through their security, which is, by the way, some of the best in the business. Well, it got through because they let it through and just keeps helping them be the dominant operating system on the market… but you didn’t hear that from me. It’s along the same lines of how Apple’s iPhone prototypes “accidentally” gets leaked; the iPhone 4′s prototype somehow gets out of their highly secure R&D facility and left in a bar? Really?

While Congress is lubing up their asses so they can continue getting fucked by the entertainment industry wanting to have their way with this, don’t be surprised to read about more “long-arm reaches” by DoJ to nab foreign-based offenders. See, they really don’t need SOPA-PIPA because as long as “offenders” are dumb enough to have content servers based in this country, their asses will be grass.

The government’s not really gonna waste time and resources going after the little fish, as the statement I quoted mentioned… but don’t take that for granted and think that they can’t or won’t fuck with you if you give them reason to, okay?

Well, this didn’t take long: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/46072484/ns/technology_and_science-security/. Congress has tabled SOPA/PIPA until they can figure out how to make it work without pissing off major American interests, like Google, Facebook, etc.

Read the article and you’ll see the usual political diatribe about why these measures are being put on the shelf and how “foreign pirates” are laughing their asses off at Congress. Maybe they are… but it is kinda laughable if they think that SOPA/PIPA, as it exists, can stem the tide. At the best, they will force this activity back underground, where it used to live – hell, you might even see BBS’s be revived.

Ya just knew there was no way this was going to make it into law as Congress predicted when the story first broke and, really, the Internet has a life of its own so lopping off “pieces” of it here and there could have an affect on e-commerce and other legitimate business concerns. The impact on the First Amendment would have been quite profound in this country and more so since, as I mentioned, our government is totally against censorship of any kind.

But, we did get to see our government at work on this one; they wanted to enact something that pissed the people off, the people spoke out against it – and it’s dead for now… until Hollywood and Silicon Valley can play “Let’s Make a Deal” to everyone’s satisfaction. The system does work and this time, it worked in favor of those who oppose censorship and governmental sanctions against free speech and creative expression.

The FBI will still be hard at work to shut down domestic sites they deem are in violation of the law, like what happened to Mega-Uploads and other such file sharing places so for those of you who visit such sites, beware: The next time your doorbell rings, it might be the FBI with a warrant for your arrest…

One of the TV shows that just cracks me up is “Bait Car,” seen on TruTV. I love the way the show starts: ”This man is stealing a car… and the police are watching him do it.” It truly amazes me how fucking stupid the people who get caught are! If it sounds – or looks – too good to be true…

Then, when they find themselves surrounded by cops with weapons out, they start lying like rugs, not realizing that, um, fool, they have you on tape from start to finish. I just love it when they ask, “Do you know who’s car this is? This is our car…”

Even better, sometimes, someone will tell the idiots that they’re about to fuck with a bait car – I guess they either saw the show or they’re really paying attention – but the fools will take it anyway! Well, maybe they aren’t showing “Bait Car” in the areas the cops are operating in; I mean, why give it away when you can let them walk right into a felony GTA charge?

As I sit and watch and laugh (and yell at the TV, of course), the cops’ tactics – staging a phony arrest or a bit of playacting – makes me roll my eyes until they hurt, especially when they stage and “argument” and the UC driving the bait car to the location just leaves it and gets into another vehicle; to me, that’s highly fucking suspicious even if I never saw the show! And the dopes fall for it even when the cops do a poor job selling the scenario!

The “smart” ones try not to leave prints… not thinking about the fact that video is admissible in court and, in this case, better than prints – they just can’t dispute what the tape will ultimately reveal. They’re also the same ones who have been busted for GTA in the past, too; some of them have even been caught by bait cars before and it’s like, what, you didn’t learn shit from the last time you got busted?

I love watching them panic when the car gets shut down and they can’t get out; or that look of understanding and resignation when, on shutdown, they know they fucked up big time. They laugh, cry; one guy had enough time to call his woman and tell her he was going to jail; another guy yakked up the food he was eating!

They pull them out of the car and they try to act so clueless and they should know something is really up since there are TV cameras right there with the cops; one guy asked dumbly, “What’s going on? Is this a movie?”

Yep… and you’re the star of the show, you dumb motherfucker…
