I saw an article the other day where the congregation of the church whose pastor suggested that all gays be rounded up and left to die off was applauded for what he had to say; he literally got a standing ovation.

I didn’t read the article mostly because such a thing offends me – and I don’t get offended easily.  It makes me wonder just how intelligent his congregation is to go along with what he said even though he was suggesting the extermination of a group of people… just because they dared to be different.  It demonstrates a mindlessness that I’ve always found scary – like Jim Jones “drink the Kool-Aid” scary.

And I ask again – who’d be next on his list of people he felt needed to be exterminated?

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.

Cinn, ya know, just when you think you’ve heard it all, something like this comes along, huh? Incredible… just incredible.

I agree with you 100%. Its one thing for a Christian to exercise their rights to free speech by condemning the gay lifestyle from a Biblical standpoint. But something else entirely for that same Christian to petition the government to use the power of the state to enforce one’s religious beliefs onto the nation at large.

Thanks for your comments. Forcing religious beliefs is one thing; calling for the wholesale extermination of a group of people because they don’t toe the line of your religious beliefs is something else and, well, applauding this man for his statements is just heinous; might be different if he weren’t the pastor of a church. I just don’t know about people sometimes…

It really pisses me off when people reference a single portion of a biblical passage and just go buck-wild with it – and without bothering to read everything else that goes with it, in this case, Romans 1, which removed the death penalty for those who’d be homosexual – but this clown didn’t bother to mention this because it didn’t suit his purpose – to exterminate homosexuals.

See, if I said some shit like that, I’d get arrested for a hate crime…

Which is why it irritates me when people use religion to twist something around to their advantage. It pisses me off for the very real fact of the “entire” amount of ignorance it shows from this individual.

It should make a lot of people sick, Paramour. Anyone remember what happened to Japanese-Americans when WWII jumped off?
