The Boy Scouts found themselves under siege again about their policies against homosexuals and, as a result, are reviewing changes to their policy (http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/06/12086046-boy-scouts-review-controversial-anti-gay-policy?lite).
It’s my belief that they’ve had their heads in the sand for a very long time and their continued prejudice no longer makes sense because, hmm, being homosexual does not mean you cannot be an upstanding citizen or a damned good Scout.
Besides, with homosexuality coming out of the closet as much as it has been doing, how are you going to shield Scouts from the fact that it exists? I don’t think it’s possible so all they could continue to do is keep trying to instill homophobia into its members and continue their bigoted practices against well-meaning adults who genuinely want Scouts to be the best people they can be… because doing this and one’s sexuality have nothing to do with each other – and it shouldn’t.
And, really, if you’re about turning boys into fine, upstanding citizens, filling their heads with anti-gay sentiments just produces more prejudice and bigotry, wouldn’t you agree?
