I haven’t written much lately so I thought it was time to catch up a little. There were two deaths in the family, coming within a week of each other; one of my second cousins (cancer) and one of my two aunts (COD unknown right now but I’m thinking heart attack from a blood clot after stent surgery). This death really strikes close to home since my older sister has been having a problem with her heart (periocarditis) and the doctors aren’t sure why fluid was surrounding her heart. She’s okay and recovering but when I talked to her last night at the funeral, she was now very determined to get her doctor to give all of her arteries a very close look – and I don’t blame her one bit.
With the excitement of the elections now behind us, November goes back to being a rather blah month with its cold winds and gray skies and a deceptively bright sun without warmth… well, not the kind of warmth that would make me happy, anyway.
Weather forecasters are already predicting massive snow storms for this winter, like we needed to hear this after Hurricane Sandy and that nor’easter came along and bitch-slapped our neck of the woods. They had said another nor’easter was headed our way… but it hung a right away from the coast which was probably a good thing.
On the brighter side, I went to have my implanted device checked and I’m happy to report that the two aneurysms are collapsing around the device as expected and will not pose a problem going forward; I won’t have to have it checked again for a whole year. Given how my aunt might have died – and how a member of a fellow blogger’s family died, this is really good news for yours truly.
We’re just sitting and waiting out these last thirteen days before we leave on vacation; we’ve done all the packing and have whittled down the to-do list to one or two minor things… so all that’s left to do is to wait and get a bad case of pre-trip itchiness because time, for some odd reason, always seems to slow down when you’re getting ready to go somewhere.
On the hilarious side of things, my lady has a pair of Scooby-Do slippers… and the cat loses her mind whenever she sees them. She had them on the other day and Zane was hissing and growling at them; everywhere my lady went, the cat followed her – it’s one of those things that you just have to see to get the full flavor of just how funny this is. My baby took them off and sat them where we keep our slippers… and the cat, who is normally all over the place, won’t go anywhere near where the slippers are sitting. This is the same cat who sits calmly at the door when a neighbor has their dog on our patio as they’re chatting with us; the cat and dog seem to get into a staring contest – no barking, no hissing. Cats… go figure, huh?
