My various RSS feeds drop things into my Outlook client many times a day and, if you remember, some of those feeds tell me about new porn items being offered on the Internet. One of the things I noticed some time ago were feeds about clips involving Indian couples – like people who live in India (in case you were thinking American Indians).
What got my attention is how a lot of the clips have subject lines with the word “scandal” in it, which really makes me wonder how Indians look at porn, something that appears to be coming out of the closet if the number of feeds I get about it are any indication. Then I wonder what’s so scandalous about it; if I remember correctly, India trails only China in population numbers so, yeah, Indians are fucking and doing it big time.
It begs the question of whether or not pornography exists in every culture. Is porn as forbidden a subject in other countries as it is here? Indeed, is a culture’s porn indicative of not only their sexual norms but how they deviate in such things? Like, you probably know of Brazilian, Thai, and even Japanese transvestites; some of this porn finds itself immersed in our regular old American-style porn and, again, it seems that the Indians have joined the global porn party.
I often see RSS feeds for French and German porn and, occasionally, Italian so, apparently, having one’s mind in the gutter and wanting to watch other people fucking isn’t just an American pastime. Still, regardless of the country of origin, it’s still people doing the same thing: Putting A into B, C, and D. Some of it has content that we’re very familiar with and pretty much turns us into size queens because big asses, big cocks, and big tits are the main attraction. As I wrote about, oh, months ago, there’s more anal sex porn flooding the market (and the Internet) than ever before, from anal cream pies to the eyebrow-raising (and maybe stomach turning) ATM (ass-to-mouth) action.
Is it any real surprise that porn, in its many forms, seems to cross so many cultural boundaries? I’m not really all that surprised… I just want to know what makes Indian sex so scandalous…

Yeah, that did occur to me the first time I saw it… but why that particular word? Why is it used where Indian folks doing the nasty are concerned? We see all kinds of porn in our culture… none of it that I can recall has been labeled as ‘scandalous’; we don’t think of our ‘idea’ of porn as being scandalous. I find the use of the word rather funny, like, a boss nailing his secretary is scandalous these days or a guy filming the consummation of his marriage or even partaking of the services of a lady of the night. Maybe, just maybe, in Indian culture, such things are scandalous?

The little that I know about Indian culture is their movies tend to be very “G” rated and very upbeat. There is typically singing, dancing, no swearing, no violence, free from vices and the boy always gets the girl. As I understand it, movies are to be entertaining for all and I suspect porn goes against the cultural ideals about movies.

“Bollywood” is the stuff we know about and, hey, some Americans actually like it! It seems to me, however, that if a culture has a ‘porn taboo’, it’s not going to be embraced or even acknowledged except to point out that only perverts perform in and/or watch such stuff… and there must be a lot of perverts if you look at it from this perspective.
For us here in the US – I don’t know about the UK – scandals are for celebrities and politicians and not the average man or woman. If a guy decides to bang his secretary on the office desk, nah, there’s no scandal there… let a politician do the same thing and, oops, scandal.

I’ve seen some… and it’s no different than any other porn I’ve ever seen, well, except maybe some linguistic stuff. I would agree that they are quite traditional… but uptight? They wrote the Kama Sutra!
