Good or Bad Tech?

27 Jun

I’ve been sitting here waiting to see how the coming storm is gonna affect where I live – a tornado watch is in effect until 2200 tonight; I’ve been blogging, picking on Sunny, commenting, and while watching “Master Chef UK” on BBC America, I noticed a car commercial that I’ve seen a few times before… but until now, didn’t get me wondering that if owning a car that can put the brakes on for you and use radar/lasers like fighter aircraft is good technology… or an indication that when it comes to responsibly driving a car, we’ve become lazy and complacent because they’re so ‘safe’, has all this onboard tech and they can pretty much drive themselves – we know there are now cars who can park themselves.

With all the attention to those things that can cause a driver to lose focus behind the wheel, does it really make sense for you to be able to check your Facebook page while you’re in the car?  I mean, fuck, that’s what most people have smartphones for even if some folks are texting and trolling Facebook while hauling ass down the Interstate or navigating the narrower confines of local streets.

Good or bad idea for vehicles – what do y’all think about this new tech?

Considering it is illegal in many places to text and drive: it is a little stupid to think that putting a monitor in the dashboard isnt just as distracting. I think all this new technology is just bells and whistles – my sister in law got a vehicle that shows her via monitor what is behind her car when she backs up, and no she didnt do a head check, she was watching the monitor so my question was what about everything else that is going on? at the side of the car by the wheel wells?

but look at us, both sitting and checking the weather, always waiting for the little map to show us what is going on – and yes I just got my internet back on after crappy weather – I get my weather warnings online and then turn the radio on… but all this stuff still doesnt save everyone’s life.

I do think we need to start torturing weather people who make up names and new words that just inspire fear… ugh.

Yep, I think it’s really dumb to put that console there where it can distract a driver…
