I was born and raised in Wilmington, DE, which used to be so obscure that people thought the city – and sometimes, the whole state – was a suburb of Philadelphia. I read the following, courtesy of DelawareOnline, that ABC Is launching a pilot show called “Murder Town” and it’s set in the city of my birth, echoing the label Newsweek hung on the city because of the number of killings that took place here.
The powers that be in the city are pissed that this show is based in Wilmington and they think Wilmington is being poke in the eye with a sharp stick and maybe even reinforcing the fact that, a lot of people are still getting killed and many more shot and, fuck me, many right where my mother lives.
City officials are outraged about this even though the mayor, asshole that he is, says that he’ll gladly take the production crews’ money and hope they find someone good looking to play him.
I’m wondering what the fuck they’re so outraged about because they have done little to stem the flow of bodies going into the morgue; they’ve done some things but, apparently it’s not enough because the shooting and killings continue unabated in a city that most people thought was in North Carolina, Ohio, or California. Newsweek called Wilmington “Murder Town” because it’s fucking true.
When I was in the service, people used to fuck with me because I came from a no-name city and one quite a few people never heard of; I got sick of all the “Dela-where?” jokes, too, so, yep, I took their asses to task in defense of my home. Ah, but if it’s still true that folks don’t know where Wilmington is, well, keep an eye on ABC and you’ll find out real quick.
And if television is, in fact, kicking Wilmington in the nuts – and as Newsweek obviously did – maybe it’ll get those fuckers running the city off their ineffective asses and, as the article says, save Wilmington and whatever good rep it has left because the pilot, which will be shown, is putting them on blast at the national level.
I’m willing to bet that if they do use Wilmington as a location site, I’ll bet those fuckers in city hall will go out of their way to keep all those people – and their property – safe and unharmed; obviously, it wouldn’t do for the star of the show, none other than Jada Pinkett-Smith, to get gunned down, would it?
City officials and other Wilmington bigwigs are outraged when the emotion they should be feeling abject shame and near total worthlessness; if they were doing their jobs, “Murder Town” would be some other city in some other state.
